Seminar in Trondheim, Norway

The first gathering of researchers working on different aspects of materiality, policy, and use of the physical school spaces took place on 26-28th of May, in the fitting venue of the County Governor’s residence on the bank of Nidelven in Trondheim. The researchers introduced their varied approaches to school research. The delegation from Sweden Peter, Maria and Annika presented their large ongoing mixed-methods project about the transition from Teacher Centred Teaching to Student Centred Learning. Also representing Sweden is postdoc Brendan who work with children with special needs in innovative learning environments. From Tampere University in Finland, Antti and Tuomas presented their work on Future Classroom Labs and a larger policy perspective. From Norway Hans Petter and Ellen presented their works on experiences with innovative learning environments from teachers’ and children’s perspective using the photovoice method. Ph.D. student Eirik from Norway deliberated on his ongoing Critical Discourse Analysis of OECD documents concerning innovative learning environments. From Denmark, Jesper presented his work on Technopsycology, where he focuses on digital technology in classrooms. 

After the presentations and rounds of questions the group travelled for a tour around a Tiller upper secondary school built on the Rosan Borch platform. An interesting tour hosted by principal Jon Anders Kleven, gave us all new perspectives, thoughts, and questions. After the tour the group discussed upcoming collaborations and contributions to conferences the coming years.
